A pencil drawing I did of Bradley Manning yesterday while listening to news of his sentencing. I did a Google image search and was struck by how many photos of him have him tightening his lips. I wasn’t going to post it because I thought somehow the drawing had made him look too much like a kid, but then I showed it to Laura and she said, “he is a kid.”

I did an illustration for NewYork.com’s story on Nannies To The 1% that went live yesterday. This drawing is my first pass at the concept—a combination of Mary Poppins, Superman and a money sign.

I don’t do much straight-up illustration work—mostly because I prefer the immediacy of drawing in ink and I dislike editing drawings. That said, I enjoyed the experience a lot and am happy with both the process and the result. Virtually nothing about this drawing made it to the final illustration, but the specific style and feel totally informed the finished product. You can check it out here if you’re inclined.
