Michael Arthur (Inklines) here again this morning checking in from the West Coast with some more sketchbook drawings of musicians from folks who want to come in and draw at Joe’s Pub.
Today’s drawing comes from Jessica Herzfeld. It’s part of a small Flickr set that she submitted for us to look at. I love the challenge of drawing drummers. It’s pretty good practice for getting your circles-in-perspective correct—and the relationship of the drummer to his or her kit is always a challenge. Also, drummers are frequently working from the back of the stage, blocked from view by their instruments and the rest of the band. So, here’s to the drummers!
Do you want your art featured here on our blog? Do you want to come and draw at Joe’s Pub? Well send us some samples of your work and join us for the Balthrop, Alabama show on November 19! Details here!

Michael Arthur (Inklines) Guest Blogging again today to share some more drawings from the submissions we’ve been receiving in our search for more people who want to come and draw at Joe’s Pub.
Today, I’m sharing the drawings of A.E.Kieren who has a lovely loose style and a keen eye. His drawings of NY nightlife are moody and full of character. His Tumblr page is dedicated to his Boston Terrier, but his website has galleries of his illustration work; check it out here.
I hope A.E. can join us (as our guest) for the Balthrop, Alabama show on November 19th.
By the way, we’ve extended the deadline for submissions. It’s just been too much fun looking at all these wonderful drawings; we figured, the more the merrier! If you’re interested in submitting and coming to draw at Joe’s Pub, send us your work!

Michael Arthur (Inklines) here with today’s submissions to Joe’s Pub as we look for folks to come in and draw the performers on our stage! Do you want to draw at Joe’s Pub? Submit your drawings through our Tumblr page!
Alexander Reynoso is a designer and painter who—among other things—participates in The Collage Movement NYC doing live paintings. I’m particularly drawn towards the notion of live painting, in that it combines graphic art with Theater in cool ways. It’s an old tradition and it goes back centuries if not millennia, but I always point out that during the Vaudeville years, cartoonists used to make a good living touring with their live shows, amazing audiences with their drawing skills. One of these cartoonists—Winsor McKay—created the first animated film as a way to dazzle crowds (and interact with his drawings) in unique ways.
Anyways, Alexander Reynoso’s paintings (from photographs) are cool and I like the live aspect to his work! I hope he can join us to draw during the Balthrop, Alabama show on November 19 at Joe’s Pub!

Michael Arthur (Inklines) checking in again with my hand in the grab bag of awesome art we’ve been receiving.
Today we have a couple of paintings/drawings from Jenny Laden. I think the drawings come from Pub favorites the Martha Graham Cracker Cabaret, but I’m not sure. I’m also not sure if they were drawn from photographs or live during a performance, but I really love the perspective and the colors. And (natch), I like the negative space. There’s something about leaving white space that really opens up a drawing … Jenny, come as our guest to draw the Balthrop, Alabama show on November 19!
Do you want to have your drawings featured on the Pub’s Tumblr page? Do you want to come and draw at Joe’s Pub? Well, check out this sweet opportunity?
